Details

This happens in Mozilla build 2001010901 and the latest Mozilla with Talkbalk
function (M:18).

If I am in a forum, and open an answer box, I can type to a certain point before
my nickname and password are filled in (from Moz memory). Then I cannot type
anymore. Whatever I type isn't shown in the box. Not even after I clicked on the
answer box again. I can see a cursor blinking away, but it's not moving or
registering. To overcome this, I have to exit Mozilla and restart it.

Sometimes the newly loaded Mozilla has exactly the same problem from scratch.
The only solution then is to reboot.

This happens mostly in the Matrox forums at http://forums.matroxusers.com
Added info: I'm using Mozilla with Javascript on. But even with Javascript off
this happens to me.
Added info on the Mozilla with talkbalk function build: 2001011704
coudl you try creating a new profile (mozilla -profilemanager) and see if that
helps?

also, could you try a new nightly?
Used Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win 9x 4.90; en-US; m18) Gecko/20010126
 and Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win 9x 4.90; en-US; m18) Gecko/20010130 and still
have the same problem. Now even in the show bug boxes of Bugzilla.

sounds like it has something to do with the cookie manager, if it was an editor
issue, you wouldn't be able to type in these form elements either. reassign to
steve morse.
Assignee: beppe → morse
This can't possibly have anything to do with cookies. I'm inclined to agree
with Asa that this must be an editor issue. But if beppe feels otherwise, I
suppose we should try event handling. Reassigning.

oops -- I meant auto-fill
Well wherever it goes its been confirmed so I am going to mark it NEW to get it
off our unconfirmed radar.

Ever confirmed: true
I agree that it seems like a problem with auto-fill. Or if not that, focus.
Reassigning to Form Manager and CC'ing saari in case its a focus issue.

There's really not detail given here to reproduce the problem, so here is what I
did:

1. go to http://forums.matroxusers.com
2. click on any topic
3. click on any message in that topic
4. click on post reply
5. enter (phoney) username & password and submit
6. answer yes to save-this-password dialog
7. get message saying incomplete form as expected
8. hit back button

At this point I get the reply box again but the username/password is not
prefilled. I can start typing but the prefilling never occurs. So I am not
seeing the symptoms reported. Am I taking the correct steps?

But I am also observing that none of the pages I have encountered ever finish
loading. That explains the fact that the saved username/password are not
getting prefilled. It could also explain the symptoms reported here if the page
ever does finish loading unexpectedly while typing information into other
fields.

This problem has already been reported in bug 53956

Finally, if I'm understanding the problem correctly, then you meant
password-manager and not form-manager. Updating the component.

I do not have the problem of the pre-filled boxes not filling in my
username/password, but not having the ability to type anything in the answerbox
below that. You need to be a registered user with password for these forums to
post. If you don't come up in the user-database, you're locked out. That's why
you cannot type anything in that prefill box then.

The not completely loading of the pages can be resolved by shutting down
Javascript, as the ad-server is very slow when JS is on. Plus, the forums have
just been updated to the latest UBB software and gotten a new server, which
resolved some other problems non-Mozilla related, but are being worked on by the
hosts of these forums. This can account for the not-loading of the pages as well
(as far as I understand from Ant, the administrator).

If my problem of not being able to type in an answerbox is due to the
not-loading of the forum-pages, how do you account I had the same problem trying
to fill in a bug-number in the Bugzilla search pages?
Also, the problem goes away temporarily when I shut down Mozilla completely and
start it again.
The fact that you have the same problem with the bugzilla search page is for the
same reason -- it also fails to finish loading. In fact, the bug that I duped
this to involves the mozilla search page, so you just proved to me that I was
correct in marking these two bugs as dups.

I just got the same bug in Mozilla 0.9.3 (build 2001080110) which works great
for the rest of the time. I couldn't type anything in any of the question boxes
on the Bugzilla page http://www.mozilla.org/quality/help/bugzilla-helper.html

I had to restart my complete computer to get it working again. Just a
quit/restart of Mozilla didn't work.
It might be a problem in Bug# 95809 !!

Sorry, but I'm still not able to reproduce this. I now have a simpler set of
steps than the one I posted above. (Would the reporter please confirm or deny
that these are the correct set of steps):

1. go to http://forums.matroxusers.com
2. Scroll to bottom of page
3. Fill in (phoney) username and password
4. Click on login and say that you want to have username/password remembered
5. Return to http://forums.matroxusers.com

At this point the saved username/password are prefilled (this is different than
what I reported previously). If I type anything after the prefill occurs,
everything works fine -- nothing freezes up. And if I'm very quick and start to
type my username/password before the prefill occurs, everything is still fine.

Previously I reported that the page never finishes loading. That is no longer
the case.

On 2-5 Keyser Sosez said "Well wherever it goes its been confirmed". But I
don't see anybody ever saying that they confirmed it. So has anyone else
besides the reporter actually observed this problem? How can I set the status
back to unconfirmed?
Status: REOPENED → ASSIGNED
Since I can't reset the status to unconfirmed, I'm going to close this out as
works-for-me. If someone other than the reporter can confirm that this is still
a problem, then reopen this report.
