User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.18) Gecko/20110621 Mandriva Linux/1.9.2.18-0.1mdv2010.2 (2010.2) Firefox/3.6.18 Build ID: 20110621164646 Steps to reproduce: Simply attempt to load the page http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-14193124 by either clicking on link in other page or by loading direct by pasting the URL into the address oblong - including after restarting Firefox afresh twice Actual results: Page load indicator bar remains fixed at almost at the end. Page may be scrolled a little, but shortly freezes. Closing Firefox requires a force close down. Using "wait" is not successful. I tried loading the page a number of times after restarting Firefox. Same result. The page is impossible to handle with Firefox. Expected results: Page should have opened & displayed normally as it does on Opera & Conqueror on the same machine without trouble.
Try disabling the Flash plugin (Tools->Add-ons->Plugins), then restart Firefox and load the page -- does it still freeze? Which version of Flash are you using BTW? (you can see the version numbers in the list of plugins) You can find the latest Flash plugin here: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
When loading similar page http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14214197 Firefox locks up. Similar page on this story on the BBC site caused the same fault. Such pages contain a continuous video & a live text column. Disabling Flash Player makes no difference. To close Firefox it is necessary to force close as Wait is unsuccessful. I have the current Flash Player 10.3.181.34 running in Firefox on Mandriva Linux If I want to view this page I have to use Opera or Konqueror which load the page quickly on the same computer. They use the same installation of Flash of course.
I can't reproduce the problem using Firefox 3.6.19 from Mozilla. Firefox 5.0 from Mozilla and the Ubuntu distributed version of it also works fine. All with Flash 10.3 r181. FYI, a hang of this nature isn't a security problem and thus not something we would fix on the 1.9.2 branch. Can you reproduce the problem in Firefox 6 beta using a fresh profile? http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/6.0b3-candidates/build2/ On Linux the simplest way to test a build without disturbing your current profile is to use an empty directory as the profile, like so: # mkdir /tmp/profile # firefox6 -no-remote -profile /tmp/profile
