From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; N; PPC; en-US; m18) Gecko/20010131
BuildID: 2001013108
Upon launching Mozilla and going to check mail or newsgroups No messages are
visable. Newsgroups Or mail have unread messages but Mozilla fails to show this
(i.e. bold text and triangle widgets to the left of the newsroup). In order to
read the newsgroups I have to quit the application and relaunch Mozilla.
I have experienced this bug for a long time on many builds but was unable find a
previously submitted bug report. Is this a duplicate bug report?
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Delete all files of previous Mozilla install including preference files and
Mozilla folder in Documents folder.
2. Install a new Mozilla nightly and launch and migrate the 4.x profile.
3. Open mail and attempt to read mail or newsgroups.
4. Mozilla fail to let me read any mail or newsgroup message and reports that
there are no messages advailale for download.
5. Quit and relaunch Mozilla.
6. Go to mail.
7. Now mail and news function as it is intended.
Actual Results: Upon first launch of Mozilla mail and news fail and cannot be
read until the application is quit and relaunched.
Expected Results: Upon launching Mozilla the user should be able to read mail
and newsgroups without having to first quit the application and relaunching the
program.
This is a major problem on the Mac and needs urgent help!
Sounds like a corrupted profile to me. What are you migrating your profile from?
I am migrating from a NS 4.7 profile which has no noticeable problems with either
mail or news when this profile is used with NS 4.7. I have little evidence to
believe my NS 4.7 profile is corrupted before migration to Mozilla. If the
problem is profile corruption, this corruption doesn't appear to effect NS 4.7
mail/news functions.

Reporter what happens when you try to create a new profile? Does the same
behavoir occur?
I will try a new profile. I am not running Mozilla presently since the mkac build
is broken (images). IMHO the browser will be a real pain if one is unable to
properly migrate their profiles. I Will report back after I test with a fresh
profile.

Try a later build, I think you're running into the "Subscribe doesn't update
checkmarks" bug, also we had a bug where even if you did subscribe, you couldn't
see the newsgroups until you rebooted, sounds just like what you are experiencing.
I subscribed today to netscape.test on news.mozilla.org on port 119 on Mac OS
9.1 using build 2001040208. Re-open if you use this build or later and can't
subscribe. Thanks.

Stephend I don't believe this is the "Suscrbe doesn't update checkmarks" bug.
Today I installed the Monday April 2nd build (2001040213) and converted my 4.x
profile over. The conversion of the profile from Netscape to Mozilla should have
included my newsgroup settings. The newsgroups appear but do not download any
messages. I will Include a screenshot of the newsgroup window so you can view
what happens. BTW I have no trouble with reading newsgroups in Netscape.

Sorry, I think you're running into bug 66018, "Subscribed groups fail to migrate".
