After landing Bug 455694, the original tab position does not show anymore.

Indicating of the original tab position helps to determine new position of the tab.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Start Firefox with clean profile.
2. Open several tabs
3. Start drag a tab in the tab strip
4.

Actual Results: 
  Lost original tab position.
  Indicating of the original tab position helps to determine new position of the tab.

Expected Results: 
  The original position should be indicated

While interesting, the claim is analogous to confusing yourself when picking a book off the table and not seeing an imprint of where the book just was. It's not a strong enough argument to require yet another indicator.
