(Keywords: regression)
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; rv:5.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/5.0
Build ID: 20110615151330
Steps to reproduce:
Opened Thunderbird 5 and waited for dial up connection which did not happen, I had to connect manually - everything seems to work OK once connected. Checked all settings & servers Etc. are all as normal, checked firewall OK
Actual results:
Thunderbird 5 opened but was did not connect to ISP
Expected results:
Connection dialogue should have opened and waited for me to press dial option, connected and then checked for emails

Firefox has not autodialled since version 3 or 4, but thunderbird gives all options such as server name Etc. which are all correct but the Vista network dialler just is not activated and I have to do a manual connect to network. IE works as normal and activates the network dialler when opened. once I have connected manually all options such as check for email, update etc. work perfectly well, it just will not autodial on openning, it is like working offline, but I have not selected this option!!

When you start up Thunderbird, if you go to File -> Offline, is Work Offline ticked?

In Start -> Control Panel -> Internet Properties, in the Connections tab, is "Never dial a connection" set by any chance?

Hi Mark,
This was one of the first things I tried, have tried both checked and unchecked (currently unchecked) - No joy I'm afraid.

Hi Siddharth,
Dial whenever a network is not present is what is currently selected.

I'm experiencing this exact same problem -- including with new Version 8.0. Sometimes it works, and the Windows Connection Box pops up. I used to have this problem with Firefox until the new FF V. 6.

Terry, thanks for jumping in here.
Do you (David, Terry) still see this with current versions, like 31?

Hi Wayne,
I'm on Version 34.0, and this problem does not seem to exist any more. Whether you click "Get Messages" when Offline or Online, the Windows Dialup Box always comes up.
The only time it still fails is if you cancel the Dialup Box when it comes up, and then click "Get Messages" again without having performed another function. However, as long as you perform a simple function like viewing another Message or another Mailbox, then the Dialup Box will come up.
