2. Hold CTRL key
3. Drop the dragged tab over bookmarks/bookmarks panel/"new tab button"

Result: tab is detached.
Expected: tab went to bookmarks/bookmarks panel/"new tab button".

See bug 674732 comment 1. Once you begin a drag, reverting the direct manipulation of the tab to manipulating a transient copy of the tab is confusing UI and not a use case we want to support.

I would understand why you think it's

if supporting that would be anyhow harmful for other users, but I can't imagine someone that would ACCIDENTALLY hold CTRL at the moment of dropping the dragged tab on tab-bar, and who'd be angry that the tab didn't just move, but was duplicated.
Seriously, you can't accidentally hold CTRL while dragging. And the rest of the users, who really used this feature - the vast majority of them uses Windows Explorer and just has A HABIT that you can start holding CTRL at ANY TIME while you drag something and that it's most important to be holding it just at the moment when you drop the dragged.
And forget about the habit from usage of Windows Explorer - this also ALWAYS worked in Firefox before.

Please, reconsider your point. You are just now saying "we won't be bothered if it would be the way you describe it, we just don't personally use it, and as we don't give a fcuk if someone else needs it or not - we set WONTFIX", which is not very friendly towards users.

Perhaps it would be better if this bug was marked as an enhancement request and get fixed whenever there is time for it than keep changing it from WONTFIX to UNCONFIRMED and back.

We're not going to implement this, because once you've started dragging the tab, the visual feedback reflects that the tab is being moved. Upon pressing CTRL, to revert the tab back to the tab strip and transform the feedback into what represents a copy of the tab is unnecessarily complex.

I can leave it open, but that doesn't mean it's going to get fixed.
