Steps to reproduce:

Create a new profile and uncheck HWA in Options|Advanced|General. 


Actual results:

Open up about:config and watch descenders get cut off as you move the pointer through the list.  Also happens in other places such as the bookmark and history sidebar.  Probably in other places too.


Expected results:

Descenders should not get cut off.  Changing the default to certain fonts like Tahoma or Arial do not exhibit this problem.

I got the STR wrong.  Creating a new profile should force HWA on.  This is what you want in order to see the descenders get cut off.  Turning off HWA causes the descenders to not get cut off.

Recap:
HWA on = cut off descenders
HWA off = OK descenders

1. That's about the Meiryo font. This bug was noted with the Segoe UI font.
2. There's no mention of hardware acceleration in that other report. In this case, disabling hardware acceleration makes the problem go away.
3. I've noted this with 7.0a2 as well, so I don't believe it's specific to the 8 branch as noted in the report.

After reading bug 617330 again I agree with all you state.
