Steps to reproduce:
Tried to sync Firefox.
Actual results:
Nothing, sync reports an "unknown error" and does not sync between the laptop and desktop.
Expected results:
Sync should sync bookmarks and settings.

Thanks for your report! Somehow your two machines got into an inconsistent key state.
To fix, you can go to the Sync pane in the Options/Preferences dialog and choose "My Sync Key" under "Manage account". Just generate a new random Sync Key. This will cause a reupload of all your data. You will then have to enter that key on your other devices, and they should resume syncing.
Please let us know if that fixes it.

Just keep up to date with Firefox releases; we made several layers of fixes in Firefox 6 and 7, as described in
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=646269#c7
Firefox 6 has most of the fix, so you should be safe from having this happen to you again.
