Jaclyn,

We currently have quite a few designs for the mobile download button, if this is by design, let's leave, but if not let's determine which button to use and where - as well as corresponding button text/positioning:

iphone Home: https://skitch.com/chrissiebrodigan/fwrd3/screen-shot-2011-08-26-at-12.22.38-pm (reads: Download from iTunes - Free)

iphone Home: https://skitch.com/chrissiebrodigan/fwrfk/screen-shot-2011-08-26-at-12.23.07-pm (reads: Get Firefox Home for iPhone - Free from iTunes"

main button: https://skitch.com/chrissiebrodigan/fwrru/screen-shot-2011-08-26-at-12.22.44-pm (reads: Get Firefox for Mobile)

android #1: https://skitch.com/chrissiebrodigan/fwrr4/screen-shot-2011-08-26-at-12.22.59-pm (reads: Get Firefox for Android Free From the Android Market)

android #2 - https://skitch.com/chrissiebrodigan/fwrf4/screen-shot-2011-08-26-at-12.23.30-pm (these are the buttons with the icon and are for the new channels)

*Get rid of this button design/copy and replace with the one below

iphone Home: https://skitch.com/chrissiebrodigan/fwrfk/screen-shot-2011-08-26-at-12.23.07-pm (reads: Get Firefox Home for iPhone - Free from iTunes"
*Use this button for all Firefox Home downloads

android #1: https://skitch.com/chrissiebrodigan/fwrr4/screen-shot-2011-08-26-at-12.22.59-pm (reads: Get Firefox for Android Free From the Android Market)
*keep as is

android #2 - https://skitch.com/chrissiebrodigan/fwrf4/screen-shot-2011-08-26-at-12.23.30-pm
*We should change the copy to "Firefox Aurora/Beta for Android" instead of "for mobile"

main button: https://skitch.com/chrissiebrodigan/fwrru/screen-shot-2011-08-26-at-12.22.44-pm
*Keep this button for pages that contain both iPhone and Android content. (Would want to remove this button from the /features page and replace with the android #1 button)

thanks
Steven,

As we look to improve the download button collection, do you have any recommendations? We'd like to simplify the amount of work on the backend maintaining lots of button designs too.

Let us know!

Best,
CB

I like keeping "free" and the text references to the Android Market and the iTunes references as they give a much better indication of what you'll get when you click the link - especially as the experience is much different than the "download an installer file" experience behind most green download buttons.

It would also be nice to have a standard recommendation for any additional 'small-print' text or links that should accompany the button (if any). For example, Supported Devices, Privacy Policy, etc.

Might be nice to standardize the fonts and font-styles too. Most buttons on mozilla.com use Georgia, but the mozilla.org/mobile/ page uses Trebuchet MS. I would be inclined to standardize on Georgia.

Clearing the "for Mobile" vs. "for Android" text would be nice too (as Jaclyn suggested).

On pages where we have both mobile and desktop buttons (/firefox/channel/ and /firefox/fx/ on trunk), we also have a small 'phone' icon (http://www.mozilla.org/img/covehead/channel/icon-mobile.png) overlayed on the top-right of the icon. This does help on pages like this (especially when both buttons are green), but it is a lot of visual clutter to add to every mobile download button. Perhaps it is only need in these pages with both mobile/desktop buttons.
Great recs, thanks Steven.

Chrissie, can you help pull this together into a specific plan?

Thanks Steven, lots of stakeholders needed to weigh in on this, so I'm almost done with the action plan.
