User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:7.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0 Build ID: 20110816154714 Steps to reproduce: Tried to edit default Message Filter for junk mail. Actual results: Filter reverts to supplied form when T-Bird restarted. Same thing happens if you delete default filter. A new filter can be added and is retained. Expected results: Filter modifications should be kept. Provided/default filter should be correct. Snip attached is of provided default filter.
anything in Tools | Error console? Does it reproduce when started in safe mode? http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/safe-mode

Summary: Junk Filter incorrect and not editable → Filter incorrect and not editable. not saved, same after restart
Tried in T-bird safe mode. Message filters, edit, the default junk filter was as delivered (see previous jpg) with errors. Edited, ran, closed, restarted T-bird. Filter was back in its original (invalid) state. Also, I had "demoted" the default junk filter, but it was "promoted" upon restart. Also, I tried disabling the default filter, but it becomes enabled upon restart.
nothing in error console?

Oops! Forgot error console a - after restart safe mode and unchecked default filter cleared console error console b - still safe mode, tried to edit default filter cleared console deleted default filter no errors in console restarted with add-ons will add jpg of error console c

Console C message (afolder) seems relevant to filters but it is tracked in bug 670976. Console A seems irrelevant here. Console B is interesting. What changes are you trying to do the filter?
Summary: Filter incorrect and not editable. not saved, same after restart → Junk Filter incorrect and not editable, not saved, resets after restart

OK, where did you get this filter? When I install Thunderbird with one POP3 account, the Filter list is empty. Do you set any option so that it gets created? Or do you have any extension for it?
See last attachment. Account Settings, Junk Settings, trust Spam Assassin. Filter auto-created by that setting? Have not tried to uncheck that box and see if the filter goes away. Just tried - uncheck the "Trust junk mail headers set by ..." , then in message filters, delete the SpamAssassinYes filter (it was not automatically deleted), then shut down TBird and restarted - the SpamAssassinYes filter was gone, but the filter I had added by hand was still there.
Ok, I checked it but I still didn't get any filter SpamAssassinYes. What is your account type? POP3 or IMAP4?
POP
I should note that I had to add a Custom tag "X-Spam-Flag" and check for value YES in order to catch the Spam Assassin emails. Apparently, Spam Assassin (run at the mail server by our provider) no longer adds the "***SPAM***" prefix to the subject line. Thanks for the capability to add such (normally hidden) flags, by the way.
xref bug 536768. does it describe your issue?
Sounds very similar but hard for me to tell. I am running 7.01 on Win7, 64 bit. No "Global" account. 3 POP accounts + Local. On all 4 accounts,Junk moved to Junk folder on Local. 99% of all mail (POP) received into one created account. My workaround was to uncheck the trust junk mail headers set by... and create my own filters. There's only one set of filters - not a set per account.
