User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:6.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/6.0 Build ID: 20110811165603 Steps to reproduce: I installed eSnips Downloader from www.esnips.com and it hijacked my home (start) page and my search provider. After uninstalling eSnips Downloader I can´t recover the capacity to set these preferences. I tried changing the home page from Tools/Options/general and also editing the corresponding properties from about:config page. Actual results: After closing and re-opening the browser the hijacked homepage and default search provider are restored automatically. The program Spyware blaster couldn´t find and fix the problem and the software HijackThis blocks the hijack every time I open the browser, but the hijacking is not removed. Expected results: Firefox should have security mechanisms to prevent home page and default search provider hijacking. As I knew through a forum IE users didn´t had this problem after uninstalling eSnips Downloader. I dind´t re-install Firefox because I use Zotero extention and I fear to loose all my bibliographic references in this process.
This sounds more like eSnips is giving a bad user experience and we should work with them to fix that. Moving to Tech Evangelism.
