Ah ha, the problem is easy to reproduce: just keep hitting CRTL++ to zoom until Kablam, the problem occurs!
Chromium doesn't have the bug! (It however has problems with too many CTRL+-'s: empty left margins...)

Same issue as bug 684414 but they are doing it by minimum text size modification - zooming has the same effect
