In the modern theme in particular there are many places where only a background
color or only a text color is set for particular widgets, items. Most notable is
the content-pane of the news/email reader which sets the background color to
white, but takes the text color from the defaults specified in preferences. If
you have white specified as your default text color email and news become
unreadable.
If you are going to specify background/foreground colors in a theme you must
specify ALL or none, there can be no middle ground.
To test, set your background and foreground colors to something other than the
default, (I suggest white text on black background to find most bugs quickly).
