Where is this string located?
What would you suggest we update it to?

Please CC someone from UX who can help on this.

I will as soon as you have more clearly defined your proposal.
We can have something like "Don't load all tabs until selected" or "Prevent loading of unselected tabs". The UX team can suggest better alternatives maybe.
I'm not sure what you are driving at. What is your reason to rename the preference? What is the problem you are trying to solve?
As the title says, App tabs are always loaded regardless of this setting. This setting should be rephrased so that users don't think Firefox is broken if they see App tabs load even after it is enabled.
I've asked for escalation. Please note that it's always better to be descriptive when filing and making changes to bugs. The more descriptive, the better. Do not assume people know what you are talking about. Also, don't be afraid to illustrate your issue by attaching a screenshot to the bug.

Thanks
No offense here, but I expected someone more knowledgeable about the dependency (Bug 674452) to look into this. Thanks anyways.

Correct. This is what I have requested on bug 674452 explicitly since simply adding your bug as a dependency does not serve this purpose.
Alex, any thoughts on changing the string? I don't think it's a big deal...

(Also, CC Boriss, since she ux-r'ed the string the first time around in bug 648683)
Mentioning app tabs in the preference implies there might be a way for them not to restore (which isn't the case). If users are confused, they will over time understand the behavior by the nature of the fact that it only works in one particular way.

Random side comment: please write a description in comment #0 so it is easier for people arriving to quickly get what the discussion is about.
seriously, what's the point of having only the unpinned tabs not loaded? this is annoying and it's even more annoying considering that until firefox 7 there was already a string in about:config ('browser.sessionstore.max_concurrent_tabs') which used to let you start firefox without loading any tabs when set to 0 (both pinned and unpinned). now that string is gone and it has no effect if I re-adds it manually.
please just change the 'don't load tabs until selected' option so that it doesn't load ANY tab and make it available for all settings (show home page - blank page - windows and tabs from last time). Ah, I almost forgot to mention that this bug is further annoying because it kills one of the best addons for firefox; bar tab which, other than doing much better what the 'don't load tabs until selected' feature doesn't do, it also lets you unloads/loads single tabs whenever you want from the tab menu.
if you don't want to change that feature's behaviour at least restore the max concurrent tabs string in about config please. I would be happy either way.
sorry for my informal tone, I'm not really angry at anyone but this bug is driving me nuts as I use a lot of app tabs in my everyday web surfings.
best regards,
 Helyos
Concur with Claudio (comment 12).

I'd like
browser.sessionstore.max_concurrent_tabs
to be back for _all tabs__ or at least a language change in the UI to make sure that users know that pinned tabs are still reloaded.

There should be a separate feature for whether pinned tabs should be reloaded.

The current glitch in 9.0.1 may force users (certainly me) to unpin several tabs and/or set about:blank to pinned tabs that I don't want to load pages until I want them to.

The current UI wording is also confusing, because users assume that the feature covers all tabs and that includes pinned tabs.
Please forgive me for adapting a comment left at Bug 708585 but I do believe a major opportunity is being squandered. By adding a single additional checkbox to the options menu, this "problem" instead transforms into a potent catalyst to introduce pinned tabs to a much, much wider swath of users as a genuine killer feature. Allow me to illustrate.

It's been interesting how my browsing experience has painlessly evolved since "restore on demand" has become an option. I now habitually use extra tabs as sort of a "temporary bookmark" function in which I feel free to procrastinate (in a good way) getting back to tabs at my convenience over a day or even a week. Relaunching FF without reloading allows this beautifully -- making for a surprisingly pleasant new browsing style I wasn't expecting. Pinned tabs are essential to making it work though, so that it's always easy to find email, facebook, calendar, etc. Restoring all pinned tabs automatically, however, has caused me to limit my pinning of tabs from a peak of 5 with FF8 down to 2 tabs with FF9 (which still bogs down a bit). Keep in mind that I always use an older "test laptop" for regular browsing in order to match typical user rigs.

In any case, my browsing style evolved automatically in ways I wasn't expecting once I discovered these options, and I think there's a marketing opportunity for FF if it can be tapped. Bookmark-bloat is such a common problem, and using tabs this way to get back to things more casually -- but without forgetting them -- really allows me to be more relaxed while browsing, and more selective about what I actually end up bookmarking. This deserves to be spun heavily in marketing.

For more discussion, please see Bug 674452
please bring the don't load app/pinned tab until selected back like the one in firefox 8!

user with low internet bandwidth like the one in developing country as in Indonesia, will benefit from from the don't load app/pinned tab until selected options.

or at least show us how to bring back this feature again through about:config.
Mart, Daniel and chrone please post your concerns in bug 674452 instead of discussing them here.
We're not going to do this. If we do anything, we'll go with bug 708585 (create a new pref but not expose anything to UI)

I liked the "Don't load tab until selected" working for pinned tab in Firefox 8.
I was about to open a bug report because I thought it was a broken behavior in Firefox 9

When you make design decision stick to it, and change it in the middle of the course.

Please bring back the option to work on pinned tab
