Please reorder the items in the contributor sidebar to bring back some structure to that list:

Help in the Support Forum (direct link)
Help with Live Chat (doc)
Improve the Knowledge Base (doc)

Media Gallery (direct link)
Moderate Flagged Content (direct link)
Where will the Advanced Search link planned in bug 687869 be?

> * Support Forum Home [-Answer Support Questions]
Is it a link to https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/answering-support-questions or https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions?
Good catch scoobi.

Support Forum Home -> /questions
Support Forum FAQ -> /kb/answering-support-questions
(In reply to Crystal Beasley [:skinny, :crystal] from comment #3)
> * Support Forum Home [-Answer Support Questions]
English Support Forum Home -> /en-US/questions (some locales have their own support forum and see https://support.mozilla.com/forums/contributors/707674#post-42755 for the partially localized UI that even may mislead some contributors)

> * Moderate Forum [-Flagged] Content (direct link)
Display only for moderators to prevent an Access Denied error

> * Knowledge Base Quickstart
-> /kb/knowledge-base-quickstart
Rename first /kb/improve-knowledge-base in /kb/knowledge-base-quickstart

> * [-Help with] Live Chat Quickstart
English Live Chat Quickstart -> /kb/live-chat-quicktstart
Rename first /kb/Helping%20with%20Live%20Chat in /kb/live-chat-quicktstart

> * Translate Article FAQ
-> /kb/translate-article-faq
Rename first /kb/localize-firefox-help in /kb/translate-article-faq

> * Support Forum FAQ
English Support Forum FAQ -> /kb/support-forum-faq
Rename first /kb/answering-support-questions in /kb/support-forum-faq
Crystal, when this list is final, go ahead and unassign it and we'll pick it out of the queue.

The Moderate link is already set to only display for moderators. No change needed other than wording.

You're completely correct in pointing out the localization issues that I was unaware of. Let's kill two birds here of tightening up this list by replace these multiple links to docs to the already localized page that lists them all. I think we might want to a/b test some alternate wording. "Superheroes wanted" doesn't quite capture what this is for me.

* Contributor [News & Resources]
* Contributor[-s] Forums
* Knowledge Base Dashboard
* Help [-users] on Twitter
* Support Forum Home [-Answer Support Questions]
* Moderate Forum [-Flagged] Content (direct link)
* Media Gallery
* Advanced Search
* Volunteer Quickstart Guide -> ../kb/superheroes-wanted

You're right.

> Let's kill two birds here of tightening up this list
That's not what I asked. I only pointed out two things that I can summarize as follow:
1. "Support Forum Home" must be:
  * Solution 1 : Only displayed in en-US like it is now.
   Advantage: Contributors in locales with a specific support forum (only 4 locales) won't mix the two support forums up.
   Disadvantage: Contributors with a first preferred language (browser setting) different from en-US don't have a direct link to the English support forum
  * Solution 2: Renamed in "English Support Forum Home" and redirected to /en-US/questions.
   Advantage: Every contributors whatever their first preferred language know that the support forum is in English
   Disadvantage: Long label!

2. Consistency between labels and article names
"Knowledge Base Quickstart", "Live Chat Quickstart", and "Translate Article FAQ" link to articles with a completely different name. It's disturbing. I would like that these articles that are linked from are renamed first.

> * Contributor [News & Resources]
Does it link to a new article?
1. "English Support Forum Home" is indeed too long. I have no problem with the localizers translating it as such for the reasons you laid out. In English it should say "Support Forum Home." I don't believe the contents of this block are customizable by language, which is what would be required to really solve this issue. I know Kadir (adding to cc) would like it to be so. I see your Bug 686868 deals with this as well.

2. You have my blessing to change the article names. Content changes are outside of bugzilla system, so there's no way to set it as a blocker of this bug.

3. Contributor [News & Resources] is renamed from Contributor Home to be more descriptive. Too many home pages are confusing and tell the users little about the content.
1. This is strictly for contributors only, and you only see it when logged in, so I don't think it's a big issue to leave it as "Support Forum Home". In a localized version you could put that as "Support Forum [en]" for example.
Since this is for contributors, we can get rid of the * Volunteer Quickstart Guide -> ../kb/superheroes-wanted link. I would imagine nearly everyone would have been to that page by following the link to it in the block below.

Can we add a note somewhere (verbatim?) for localizers so they know they can translate "Support Forum Home" as "Support Forum [en]" or whatever they wish?

To fix bug 686868 don't we just have to make sure the links don't include /en-US?

I like Crystal's suggestion to call it Contributor News & Resources. I made that change so the link to that article should be /kb/contributor-news-resources

I think the final list of links should be:
* Contributor News & Resources => /kb/contributor-news-resources
* Contributors Forums => /forums
* Knowledge Base Dashboard =>/en-US/contributors
* Help users on Twitter => /army-of-awesome
* Answer Support Questions => /questions
* Moderate Flagged Content => /flagged
* Media Gallery => /gallery
* Advanced Search => /search?a=2
Target Milestone: 2011-10-11 → 2011-10-18

Yes but in your proposal, there's no longer "Support Forum Home" and you also renamed other labels from comment 8.

> * Knowledge Base Dashboard =>/en-US/contributors
> * Answer Support Questions => /questions
* Knowledge Base Dashboard =>/contributors (bug 686868 fixed in the same version)
* Answer Support Questions => /en-US/questions (see https://support.mozilla.com/forums/contributors/707674#post-42755)
Sorry I messed that up, meant:
* Contributor News & Resources => /kb/contributor-news-resources
* Contributor Forums => /forums
* Knowledge Base Dashboard =>/contributors
* Help on Twitter => /army-of-awesome
* Support Forum Home => /en-US/questions
* Moderate Forum Content => /flagged
* Media Gallery => /gallery
* Advanced Search => /search?a=2
verdi "Since this is for contributors, we can get rid of the * Volunteer Quickstart Guide -> ../kb/superheroes-wanted link. I would imagine nearly everyone would have been to that page by following the link to it in the block below."

The contributors block shows to all logged in users, so we can't assume they've already seen the quickstart info. We need to keep it here to address the goal of getting new people involved. I think it also helps users who help in the KB but could also be helping on twitter.
The contributors block was never meant to be shown to all logged in users. Now that we have a contributors group can we show this block to just them? Should I file another bug?
Hmm, I'd keep the block for all logged in users, for discoverability reasons. Not everyone wants to decide right away to become a regular contributor, but they should still be able to discover the community forums.

Sure but that's why we have the advertisement below and the "join the contributor" group stuff on their dashboards.

My bad:
* Knowledge Base Dashboard => /localization, so bug 686868 is no longer related to this bug.
Do we have a final list here? If we want this for 10-18 we need to agree on something.

It seems like we might all agree except for the inclusion of a link to Superheroes Wanted. I don't think we should block this on that. I'm fine with including it. Crystal suggested:
* Volunteer Quickstart Guide -> ../kb/superheroes-wanted

Since all of the other similar links are labeled "Contributor something" I'd suggest:
* Contributor Quickstart Guide -> ../kb/superheroes-wanted
Can you point to, or include, the final list here? There are half a dozen in the comments.
Target Milestone: 2011-10-18 → 2011-10-25
* Contributor Quickstart Guide -> ../kb/superheroes-wanted

* Knowledge Base Dashboard => /localization
* Help on Twitter => /army-of-awesome
* Support Forum Home => /en-US/questions

* Contributor News & Resources => /kb/contributor-news-resources is page not found, but I'm assuming it will be updated to link to an article in prod.
Yes, we already changed the name of the article on prod.
