Slovenian (sl) locale would like to stop localizing MDN, because the page currently looks 80% English and 20% Slovenian, which is much worse than 100% English. Besides, target audience is web developers, who actually prefer content in English. We would like to remove sl from the language picker and let users visit the site in en-US.

Let's figure out the best way to disable sl on MDN so they just see en-US.
This could be as easy as removing 'sl' from the MDN_LANGUAGES setting.

Luke / Buddy: Can you provide a bit more detail on what exactly was changed? Are we removing all localized strings from the sl locale or simply pointing sl browsers to the en-US content? Just want to understand what we did with this bug... and hopefully give Raymond a bit more to go on for his testing. Thanks.
We're sending sl browsers to en-US content - we're not removing any content already translated. The way our middleware works will also remove the option from the language drop-down, if that's okay?

Removing the option from the drop-down is fine with me, but I think if we do that, we should also redirect all /sl URLs to /en-US (if we don't plan on cleaning out all the localized strings)
When I tested it locally, in a localized browser, it wouldn't allow me to hit /sl and defaulted to /en-US on its own. Is there a way to do that explicitly somewhere, as my understanding that is automatic in the middleware, but I could very well be wrong since I am new to the codebase.
yeah, set the browser language to sl and hit the page - should land on en-US. you can also try going straight to /sl/. Jake, can you help us get someone from IT to flush/restart developer-stage9 memcached. I think it's caching the MDN_LANGUAGES setting. Thanks.

I can still see sl strings on https://developer-stage9.mozilla.org/sl/. (Firefox 7, Slovenian).
We removed the locale auto-detection and redirection, but I don't think we want to delete any localization work that's already done, do we?
If I go to either https://developer-stage9.mozilla.org or https://developer.mozilla.org/, I'm still redirected to /sl with content in Slovenian. This should not happen. And sl should be removed from the language picker (it already is on the stage server).

Stas, if we delete from sl from verbatim mdn project, will we lose all the translation work? I would hate to come back to this in a year or two and find out we tossed work that we might want back.
