I am hitting the following problem occasionally on my most active browsing profile: all tabs are restored, but their favicons, titles, etc. aren't. If I click on one of them them, I see the correct URL in the URL bar, but it doesn't load (I have 'browser.sessionstore.restore_on_demand' set to true, so I would expect the tab to load at this point.) I'm attaching a screenshot of the tabs drop down menu. I don't recall when I first saw this problem, but it was a few weeks ago. It seems to mostly occur when Firefox doesn't shut down properly (which is why I first attributed it to that.) If there's any log output that I can produce, I'll be happy to do so and report back when the problem occurs the next time.
I've just had this happen to me again a bunch of times. This time a few tabs didn't even get any title at all, so it says "New Tab". As you can see in the screenshot, the tab was selected, the URL is Twitter, but nothing is being loaded, and the tab title is "New Tab". I've observed the stdout and error console output, but nothing that would point to an exception within session restore.
I just turned "Don't load tabs until selected" off and restarted. The problem re-occurred nonetheless and it goes as far as restoring 3 tabs fully. It then stopped restoring, leaving the rest of my tabs in the same state that I've described before. If there's anything I can do to debug this issue, please let me know. I'll be happy to run a test build for a few days or whatever.
Are you running any add-ons? Does this happen if you run Firefox.app -P and create a new profile?
(In reply to Anthony Hughes, Mozilla QA (irc: ashughes) from comment #3) > Are you running any add-ons? Does this happen if you run Firefox.app -P and > create a new profile? I'm running a bunch of add-ons. My biggest suspect is my own Vertical Tabs, though it doesn't actually muck with session restore all that much. I will keep an eye on it. I only filed because mart3ll said he was seeing the same problem. Maybe he was running Vertical Tabs, too? In any case, I just lost all my tabs, so I started with a fresh sessionstore.js now. Let's see if I can get the problem to occur again now.
I remember something of this sort happening before. I don't know if there was a bug for it or if something got fixed already... regardless it sounds familiar. Best way to help would be a sessionstore.js file that reproduces the issue and a list of addons. I know there's a problem with shistory listeners (bug 651033), but afaik that would only break reload, not selecting tabs.
I think it's related to bug 661953, bug 625398. Comment 1 had the same experience I reported on bug 708093, comment 10. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:8.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/8.0

And does this affect only favicons? (I saw something other tha bug 625398 about this)
