We would like to develop a reel of the top videos from the 2006 contests and use a compelling, engaging voiceover. This needs to be exciting and fun and really showcase the quality of videos we are hoping to get for the contest.
We are aiming to announce the contest the first week of Nov.

Hey, your launch video uses scenes from the videos applied to Mozilla Japan's video awards *without our permission* (and probably the creator's' permission).

What's happening here? Do we have to send a DMCA Notice to remove those?

Does Mozilla really not have the right to use Mozilla Japan's marketing materials?

Please drop us a note when use our materials. And at least you have to get permission from the creator. Those are *not* licensed under Creative Commons nor public domain.

Sorry, very honest mistake on our part. When we work with outside parties on videos or other marketing materials, our contracts cite that we have full ownership over the material and rights to use them however we want. We had assumed that was the case, and also didn't make a distinction between Mozilla and Mozilla Japan in this case.

Ugh, I was wrong here. Those videos are licensed under CC BY-NC-ND 2.1 Japan.
