Details

Apparently having many bookmarks (talking 1200+ bookmarks) and long history stored (many many entries for 2 months back) in Firefox causes it to freeze randomly during normal usage and almost every time when trying to open Bookmarks or History menu (especially the popup one) from within orange Firefox button. I have tried using Firefox optimization in Piriform's CCleaner but it did nothing to solve the problem. I also thought antivirus was causing the freeze while it was scanning the database on-access but later found out Firefox freezes even without antivirus. Disabling or removing all extensions didn't help either.

Clearing 3/4 of my bookmarks and my entire browsing history for testing purposes and the freezing is now gone.

To me, this clearly shows that the way how Firefox stores history and bookmarks is very inefficient and should not limit the user and his/her browsing habits.
If i need many bookmarks stored, i expect the program to handle that without any problems.

Also hardware should not be an issue if anyone thinks that might be a problem.
Core i7 920 @ 3,3GHz, 6GB of 1600MHz RAM and a speedy WD Caviar Black 2TB 7200RPM drive, i think it's way more than enough to handle a browser.
As an alternative, you may install current firefox 8 beta.
PS: Don't ever use external softwares like CCleaner on Firefox files, use internal firefox cleanup methods, that are safer and won't cause you troubles in future.
