a) Currently back-end is not capable of recording if a visit is a redirect, there should be at least another visit_type called redirect
b) how should redirects be handled? Should they be simply ignored by the client and never synced to a server?

We can certainly catch them in the firefox add-on. So if it is useful data to have then we can add a redirect visit type and record them.
