This is triggered with "Show suggestions" enabled in the Multi-touch keyboard settings. I am not seeing this behaviour in any other application.

This is also reproducible by tapping on the tab menu drop-down: 11-03 12:30:52.491 2731 2731 W GeckoAppJava: IME: getEditable called from dalvik.system.VMStack.getThreadStackTrace(Native Method) 11-03 12:30:52.522 1381 1381 D LatinKeyboard: updateF1Key-mIsAlphaKeyboard: true ,mHasVoiceButton: true
Just to confirm - this happens with hardware keyboard open, right? Isn't it supposed to work like this? Otherwise - how would you get the suggestions with the HKB?

Oh, I get it - it's not when an edit box is activated. And the KeyCharacterMap error in the log is definitely something that needs to be investigated.

Droid Pro has the keyboard right on the front of the device, no slider http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/US-EN/Consumer-Product-and-Services/Mobile-Phones/Motorola-DROID-PRO-US-EN. It's not suggestions, at all, it's what you see in the screenshot appear on every page load and via the method reproduced in comment #2

I get a similar one with a standard Android keyboard when activating an edit box - the suggestions are just several punctuation symbols.
Perhaps this is some awkward intentional behaviour on Motorola MotoBlur based devices. Seems odd, but I'm not sure.
Aaron, This is definitely a suggestion box from the Multi-touch keyboard. I can see the same on the Droid 3, but only when the Search box on the CNN page is focused, and even in that case it's not always happening. Can you provide exact STR and web-sites where you see this suggestion box? Did you also see that box on the tab menu drop-down? Can you please add a screenshot for that case? Also, just to avoid confusion, the message in the log about KeyCharacterMap is a separate issue from what you see on the screen (though they might be related). I mean, the suggestion box with punctuation symbols on the screen is not a "character map" mentioned in the log, even though it might look like one.

New profile; about:home -> http://people.mozilla.com/~atrain/mobile/screenshots/1.png, dismissed after viewing cnn.com -> http://people.mozilla.com/~atrain/mobile/screenshots/2.png, invoked again Tap search box -> http://people.mozilla.com/~atrain/mobile/screenshots/3.png, suggestions shown It appears as though, this is indeed the suggestion box. I'm just confused as to why Fennec is displaying it when I am not focused on anything and it is invoked on page load (as seen in the first/second screenshot) > Did you also see that box on the tab menu drop-down? Summary: Droid Pro invokes a KeyCharacterMap on every page → Droid Pro invokes a keyword suggestions-box on every page regardless of focus
(In reply to Aaron Train [:aaronmt] from comment #9) Thank you for the additional info Aaron. > Tap search box -> > http://people.mozilla.com/~atrain/mobile/screenshots/3.png, suggestions shown As I can see on the screenshot, it's not just tapping, but typing a text. I bet when you'll delete those typed characters, you'll see the same suggestion box with just the punctuation symbols. > It appears as though, this is indeed the suggestion box. I'm just confused > as to why Fennec is displaying it when I am not focused on anything and it > is invoked on page load (as seen in the first/second screenshot) Yes, this is the actual issue.
You know what? I still cannot reproduce this issue on the Droid Pro! Using the nightly and my own build - cannot get that suggestion box to show. It does show when I tap on the Search field at the CNN page, and when I type something there, then delete everything, the suggestion box stays with those punctuation symbols, but it does not appear by itself neither on about:home, nor on the cnn.com. It seems like something else might affect this.
Droid Pro (Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread) (Language and Keyboard Settings) -- Keyboard Settings -- * Input Method: Multi-touch keyboard * Multi-Touch keyboard ** Input Languages: English (United States) (check marked) ** Auto Correct errors (disabled) ** Auto-punctuate (disabled) Device keyboard * Show suggestions (check marked) * Auto-correct errors (check marked)
(In reply to Aaron Train [:aaronmt] from comment #12) > Droid Pro (Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread) (Language and Keyboard Settings) -- > [...] Yes, all the same, but I still don't see this behavior. By the way, how did you make the "Opinion" link selected on the second screenshot? I don't have any such a selection when open the site - only when I tap on it the selection rectangle appears for a moment, then the link opens. Could it be that you have some kind of a keyboard control mode enabled somehow (though I have no idea what that might be :))?
