[testday-20111028] about:support causes nightly and mesa-7.11 to crash see also: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=692989 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=692989#c20 This machine has an intel i865 GPU about:support loads fine with an intel i915g GPU which is the next generation intel GPU I'll link to this report when I file a bug at freedesktop.org mesa-7.11

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42611 I finally booted Debian stable and tested using kernel 2.6.32-5-686, mesa 7.7.1, firefox 10-0a1 mesa 7.7.1 is working correctly and loads about:config with all fields filled in. http://get.webgl.org is also not crashing as reported above ( but is not loading webgl content ) when running kernel 3.1.0-1-686-pae, messa 7.11, nightly 10-0a1
Debian Stable - kernel 2.6.32-5-686 - mesa 7.7 - firefox8 10 and 11 load about:support all fields are filled in and both buttons ( Copy all to clipboard and Open Containing Folder) are working. see bug filed for mesa 7.11 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42611 Debian Sid - kernel 3.1.0-1-686-pae - mesa 7.11 - Firefox 10 I hope this comment explains a bit better than comment 1.

Just to let the submitter and occasional readers know, here is other related bugs: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=696636 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=703048 Cesare.

Closing: The hardware spec does not meet the minimal required for the QA test case. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=692989 4. Linux-x11 machine that supports OpenGL layers. Latest Ubuntu release + NVIDIA GPU and proprietary NVIDIA drivers is usually the most reliable combination, sadly. In that order of importance. (It would be useful at some point to check a machine without GPU layers, but the benchmarks below are so slow without GPU support that it doesn't really matter. Plus the non-GPU path is what we've been optimizing in fennec for the last year.)

Will, i don't know if you are a Mozilla developer, but i'm really concerned with the reason why you closed the bug. Please, can you point me to a document that help me to understand how can i check if a specific graphic card supports opengl layers? Firefox's release notes doesn't mention that requirements: it's weird that a user have to discover an hardware requirement looking through a bug report. If #692989 is so normative its content should be incorporated in the release notes. And, also, i find that a crash is a discutible reaction to an unsupported condition (that the user can't check himself). In a well written software i call it a bug. Cesare.
(In reply to Will Setc from comment #0) > [testday-20111028] > about:support > causes nightly and mesa-7.11 to crash > This machine has an intel i865 GPU Please try mesa 7.11.2-3. My FC16 machine with i865 displayed the same crash in Firefox with mesa 7.11.2-1, and since the update no longer does so. I also added a new user which may be co-incidence.
Here is earlier Firefox crash report: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/bp-9b9e53cf-7bab-462c-b8ae-b1bd32120301 As per comment 6 I am no longer able to reproduce crash on my machine with i865. However I have a similar machine with i845, with same FC16 and also mesa 7.11.2-3, this still crashes in Firefox on about:support and any WebGL page. I see this will be fixed with https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=696636, which will force WebGL disabled if OpenGL <2.
Apolgies - just checked and I had set Firefox setting 'webgl.disabled userset true' on the i865 machine, please ignore above two comments. I understand this what the https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=696636 will fix.
(In reply to John AS from comment #8) > Apolgies - just checked and I had set Firefox setting 'webgl.disabled > userset true' on the i865 machine, please ignore above two comments. Thank you very much John! I didn't know the webgl.disabled setting: that solved my crashes on a number of sites (now only two tested). Great workaround waiting for #696636 fix (i855 here).
