User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:7.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0.1 Build ID: 20110928134238 Steps to reproduce: I tried to delete an attachment. Actual results: The attachment were replaced with text: "You deleted an attachment from this message. The original MIME headers for the attachment were:..." Expected results: Replaced attachment-content can not be viewed in other email-clients (eg. Outlook, Roundcube), because the content of the attachment matches (mostly) not the original fileextension (PDFs, JPGs, PNGs and so on). If the attachment itself is replaced by text, the fileextension should be renamed or added with ".txt", eg. "picture.jpg.txt", or "document.pdf.txt" - so other clients are able to display the content correctly. Otherwise (as an selectable option - and preferred by me) the attachment should be deleted completely and the info-text ("You deleted an attachment from this message...") should stay at the end of the email-text itself. This would cause that now attachment-icon is displayed anymore (which is correct, when the attachment is deleted) and all email-clients are fine with it.

I believe it's worth to mention, this problem occurs for IMAP users really using multiple clients.
Maybe it would be enough to change the content-type of the fake attachment to text/plain without changing the filename. Are the other programs offering to save the file to disk with the Text as content? Or do they display it inline? Can you attach a screenshot? Can you then test is by editing the content-type in the eml file?
