Details
While the current message filter mechanism is quite flexible and useful, when the filters are typically run when "Checking Mail" the messages are moved out of the inbox and often become "out of sight, out of mind" (i.e. requires an explicit open of various folders to locate unread messages which otherwise will not be seen). Executing a filter when "Manually Run" requires continuous explicit action to apply the filter.
A very useful feature would be to allow a filter to be applied "After Message is Read". Then new email would be directly visible in the Inbox, but after reading could be automatically filtered and filed (moved to another folder).
Possible sequence would be:
If <message(1) is selected and opened in preview pane> then
when <new message(2) is selected> or <Thunderbird exits> then
<apply filter(s) with 'After message is read' to message(1)>
If <message(1) is opened in standalone tab/window> then
when <tab/window is closed> or <Thunderbird exits> then
<apply filter(s) with 'After messages is read' to message(1)>
The messages scattered into folders can be found easily with hotkey "n" (next unread message).
Confirming as enhancement.
