The registration form has several mandatory fields, but at least one that's optional (sign up for the newsletter).
For someone who's sensitive to this kind of thing, it feels like we're sneaking in the newsletter signup amidst a bunch of required fields so that people accidentally enable it.
I think there should be an indication which fields need to be filled out/checked and which don't.

sneethling: Is the only change the asterisk added in front of the first check box?

[:cmore] No, it is also added to the placeholder text off the input fields. I am guessing if you already have an account, those fields might be filled with your login data and hence you will not see the placeholder text.
Either that, or my solution is to subtle ;) Let me know your thoughts, thanks

I'm marking this as WONTFIX due to age, but I've added it to the list of considerations for the redesign: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Websites/Affiliates/Redesign

Should this be left as open... at least until it's been discussed during the redesign?
I can see the case where this bug will be superseded by a new future bug.

I don't think so. There's nothing actionable here until the redesign occurs, and when it does, the action won't be tied to this bug in particular most likely.

That works for me - thanks - just wanted to check (and do my QA due-diligence).
