Details

(Whiteboard: [sync-engine-addition])

As per the meeting yesterday, We will not include locales & dictionaries in the first release of the addon sync engine. We would like to eventually include them.

Feature page for Addon Sync: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Services/Sync/Addon_Sync
Summary: Follow-up: add locales & extensions to Addon Sync engine → Follow-up: add locales & dictionaries to Addon Sync engine
Now that Firefox 34 has been released with the password syncing fix, is this being considered?
I don't think it's been prioritized for a forthcoming release. If you're interested in working on it, then we can try to find a mentor. Otherwise, it's unlikely to be addressed soon.

Dictionary add-ons are no longer a thing post-WebExtensions, and bug 409969 covers syncing custom dictionaries.

Hi, why is this bug closed? As of Firefox 77 beta it is still not possible to sync installed dictionaries (which install like add-ons).

Hi there! You're totally right, it looks like WebExtensions can supply dictionaries as of bug 1410214! If you're syncing add-ons, will that install their default dictionaries (any .dic files they specify in their manifest), or will they not get installed at all? (Either way, I don't think we'll sync anything you've added to the dictionaries; that's bug 409969).

Dictionaries are not synced, regular add-ons are, same behaviour is also seen when sync is set up and user resets Firefox from about:support, Firefox 77 beta channel.

Cool, thanks for clarifying! In that case, I think we can close this bug as WONTFIX, since it's about the legacy dictionary add-ons. Please follow bug 409969, which is for syncing the actual dictionaries.

Unfortunately, we haven't prioritized bug 409969 in our backlog, so I can't say when it'll be fixed...but thank you for following up!

HI, please clarify what you mean by "legacy dictionary add-ons", where are the new "non legacy dictionary add-ons"?

bug 409969 is about custom dictionaries; words that are not in the installed dictionaries, and are added by the user to persdict.dat
