From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; N; PPC; en-US; 0.8) Gecko/20010215 BuildID: 2001021502 Downloaded Mozilla 0.8/Mac, operation stable, pages looked good. Had heard great things about new Preferences relating to animated gifs, etc. Opened PREFERENCES dialog box, looked through it. COULD NOT CLOSE. Close button useless. Dialog box sat on screen. Could not leave dialog box. Had to FORCE-QUIT browser, destabilizing system. Restarted Macintosh. Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1. Download Mozilla. 2. Open browser. 3. View web pages. So far, so good. 4. Open PREFERENCES Dialog box. 5. Examine contents. 6. Attempt to close PREFERENCES dialog box. 7. You can't. Button non-functional. 8. No close-box widget to work around this bug. 9. Try button again. 10.Try button again. 11.Try button again. 12. Force-quit browser. 13. Restart Macintosh. Actual Results: After the preferences dialog box failed to close and I force-quit the browser, the browser quit as expected and I restarted my computer to avoid potential damage to the system. Expected Results: I expected the CLOSE button in the preferences box to close the browser.

Reopening bug per reporter's comments to me.

(for reference, adding text of reporter's e-mail comments to me) "The difference between this bug and the previously reported bug is that the previously reported bug makes mention of an X-widget that can close the window. There is no such x-widget in Mac OS. There is no close-box widget at all. Thus there is no SAFE way to close the preference box. That's a difference."
Jeffrey: The cause of the bug is still likely the same. I don't see what that has to do with these bugs not being duplicates. I still think these are dups. Does the Preferences window close correctly if you go through the panels, then switch to the History panel, then click OK? If not, comment here. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 66118 ***
