This appears to be a new bug in Firefox 10.0a2(2011-11-12). It does not occur in 9.0. There appears to be a bug in setting image transparency. When the image transparency is set dynamically (either using css events or using javascript) the image appears to be blended with black rather than the background color. Please try with HWA disabled and see if the issue persists. Please post the graphics section from about:support

Is this still an issue with recent drivers and Firefox versions ?
No, this is no longer an issue. I don't remember the exact build that fixed it, but I am using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:13.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/13.0.1 and can no longer reproduce it.
