Details

(Whiteboard: [9b3])

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:9.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0

An outdated version of NoScript add-on (e.g 2.1.4 - 2.1.9) does not update after upgrading Firefox 8.0b6 to Firefox 9.0b3. The Check for Updates User Interface is also affected by this add-on, it is displayed but disappears short after without giving you the chance to check or not for updates. If the preference extensions.shownSelectionUI is set to false the Check for Updates User Interface allows you to check for updates for the NoScript add-on. If you have another outdated add-on on your profile and the extension.shownSelectionUI is true (default) the Check for Updates UI allows you to check for updates for all the add-ons except for NoScript which is not listed at all.

extensions.ShownSelectionUI set to false -> UI appears and NoScript is being updated
extensions.ShownSelectionUI set to true (default) ->UI appears briefly and NoScript does not update

This behavior applies also on:
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:9.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:9.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:9.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0

Reproducible: always

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Firefox 8.0b6 and change the update channel to "betatest"
2. Install NoScript 2.1.8
3. Upgrade Firefox

Actual results
1. At restart the Check for Updates UI is displayed but disappear shortly after. NoScript add-on is not updated after the restart of Firefox.

Expected results:
1. At restart the Check for Update UI is displayed and allows you to update the outdated NoScript add-on.

Same behavior with Video DownloadHelper 4.9.6 addon installed on Firefox 8.0b6. The addon is not updated after Firefox is.

When extensions.shownSelectionUI is true we show the old compatibility UI on upgrade, this only offers to upgrade your extensions if they are no longer compatible with the new version of Firefox

Since NoScript 2.1.9 is compatible up to Firefox 11 the old compatibility UI won't offer to upgrade it.

So far as far as I can see this is working as expected. To be sure it would be nice to replace the old compatibility UI with something that works more like the new one (bug 586492) but it looks like there isn't a bug beyond that here. Am I missing something?
That sounds like a reasonable assessment Dave. I'm going to resolve this INVALID for the time being. Simona or Paul, if you can make a case for this being a valid bug, please reopen.

Thanks
