We use a Webtrends tracking link to track downloads on our various promotions, but we'd like to figure out a way to track Android Market click throughs. Since this is an external link, we currently do not have an effective way to track. Solution: Instead of linking directly to https://market.android.com/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox, create an interstitial page that contains the Webtrends tag and redirect after rendering the page. This has the benefit of being consistent with the current snippet tracking method. Brad - can you let us know what the requirements are needed to set up this interstitial page? Thanks

This would be something implemented by your developers. It's basically a blank page that contains the Webtrends tag that will automatically re-direct the user to the targetted website. Where are you viewing the current set of snippet reports? Once I determine what profile will collect this data I can provide the base and inline javascript code.
Brad - I'm currently viewing the snippet reports in Webtrends under the mozilla.org/firefox profile > marketing campaigns > download conversions Laura - is it a Websites bug or IT bug to create this blank page w/ URL? who else should I cc? Thanks for the guidance! URL of the interstitial page: mozilla.org/mobile/androidmarket(? open to suggestions) which would then redirect to: https://market.android.com/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox We would then use the URL of the interstitial page for the Webtrends tag Ok cool! Thanks a lot everyone!
Brad, can you provide an update and then we'll figure out next steps? Thanks!

This would really up to your developers to decide how they want to implement the interstitial page. Like Jaclyn mentioned above, a user would click on the snippet which would contain a link to the interstitial (e.g. http://www.mozilla.org/androidmarket/interstitial.html?WT.mc_id=android_market). The interstitial page would include the standard webtrends tag. When the user lands on the interstitial the tag will fire and contain the WT.mc_id parameter. Then redirect to https://market.android.com/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox. I hope this helps.
Thanks Brad Chrissie - do we have everything we need to create this page?
(In reply to Jaclyn Fu from comment #5) > Thanks Brad > > Chrissie - do we have everything we need to create this page? Jaclyn, if it's OK, I'd like to open a bug for James or Steven G. to build this page. It should be pretty easy, but I'll need you to help me prioritize it against other items in the queue for the next 3 releases left in 2011.
Hey Chrissie - I would count this as a higher priority since we will need accurate WT tracking data for all the mobile campaigns and promos we're going to run

Brad - Which report should Jaclyn use once this tracking is in place to measure a mobile campaign conversion? Specifically, paid ad ---> interstitial page, with the interstitial page being the conversion point.

These campaigns start early next week so let's get everything setup before then. I suspect a custom marketing conversion report will be needed with a visit to this page as the conversion event. Right? If so, please setup.

I'm confused if it's just the normal tracking code or not. I've setup a blank page which will redirect with the normal tracking code. Please view the source and see if it's right: https://www-dev.allizom.org/en-US/mobile/android-download.html

Hi Brad - will we need custom tracking code? And what kind of conversion report is needed? Thanks
Comment 13•13 years ago

Because the conversion point (downloading Mozilla for Android) is not on the mozilla.org domain we will not be able to report on conversions. I was originally going to create a custom report but then realized that this data should be present in the 'Conversions by Most Recent Campaign ID' report; however, in this case the conversion will be 'None' because it occurs on another domain.

The interstitial page went live here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=708791 I created following two test reports that can be found under the All Custom reports tab in the mozilla/firefox profile: TEST Android Marketing Campaign (Interstitial Redirect) TEST Android Marketing Campaign w/ Referring Page (Interstitial Redirect)

Thanks Brad, I don't see anything on the two reports yet - do you think you can just briefly explain what I will see on the reports when the data starts rolling in?

@JFu - I believe you mentioned these reports are up and running. If so, please close.

Bill: does it matter what the campaign ID is? or any link pointing to this URL will be tracked in this report? If so, can we change the campaign ID to be tracked to: "fxa"? Thanks

this particular report only looks for campaigns prefixed with fxt. I would need to add the second type.

Hi Bill, Can you help us double check? I tested a link using the "fxa_" prefix and it's not showing up in the Android Marketing Campaign w/ interstitial redirect custom report Thanks

Had an error in the filter. It is fixed now. If the test you sent was yesterday, send it again.
