Oh, and they should link to http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird (and respective locales)

Looks like we can add the "Thunderbird" buttons to all locales as the word Thunderbird has not declination in all locales.

So, only add the buttons that say "Thunderbird" and nothing else to all locales? Many of the button variations have other en-US only words on them. We will need a main Category and sub category strings. Should they both be "Thunderbird"?

cmore - I think so

Mkelly: Do you have everything you need to upload new buttons to stage to verify? Only the buttons that say "Thunderbird" and no other strings should be uploaded.

What's the categorization for these? They don't seem to fit under Firefox or Mozilla, but it seems like overkill to add an entire category for Thunderbird. Perhaps it can go under Mozilla -> Thunderbird -> Thunderbird?

I think under Mozilla works well.

Does the rest of the hierarchy work as well? (Thunderbird -> Thunderbird)? And we're sure that can be used without localization?
Comment 9•14 years ago

Yes, it does. Thunderbird doesn't change regardless of language. :)

I'll create the preview buttons tomorrow and upload them to this bug.

So, I've run into a bit of a hitch with the preview buttons... in that I can't access Spread Thunderbird to get the actual button images. Anyone have them saved?

Note: these buttons are the "Thunderbird" only buttons, so they work for all locales.

Buttons are posted to production and everything looks good. Thanks everyone!

Can't bump to verified at the moment, http://spreadthunderbird.com/ is down for maintenance.

Chelsea: Are we going to re-visit the other Thunderbird buttons and possibly localize them? We've gotten feedback from a user who wants the older buttons that we did not upload. Perhaps an alternative set of buttons if we can't use the old ones?

Timely! I just met with the new engagement person from Thunderbird today and she's/we're going to build new TB buttons using the Firefox style buttons with the new TB icons.
We can't use the old buttons because we don't have the PSDs and we can't localize them. Can you find out from this user which button it was so we can meet his/her needs with a new version?

The user posted on SUMO: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/contributors/708156?last=45139
I think that specific user's case was handled, although we might want to reach out once the new buttons go live and let them know that they have other options.

Thank you Michael and Chelsea!
What's a "PSD"? And how do you "localize" an image which is already translated, do you mean some kind of metadata?
Comment 22•13 years ago
|
||
A PSD is a photoshop image file. The reason we need that file is because it would allow us to edit the text on the image while keeping the rest of the image the same, which in turn lets us replace the English text with text from another language.
The images we have aren't already translated; they're only available to us in English. We can't use the images unless we can translate them to the other languages that Affiliates is available in, like French or Serbian. And we can't translate them unless we have the original PSD file that lets us edit the text.
