The installer for both Mozilla and Netscape (although we can't make Netscape do
it) should have a popup window that tells the system requirements and then the
installer should test the system to see if it meets the requirements. If the
system doesn't meet the requirements a message should be given to ask if the
user really wants to continue with the install.
Possibly, even Mozilla upon first startup could test the system and give a
similiar message (for those that didn't download the installation package).
I have heard many horror stories about people not getting Netscape 6 to work on
their systems, and although I know that Netscape 6 isn't under Mozilla's
control, I believe that if Mozilla adds this functionality then Netscape will
too. The last thing we want people saying is that Mozilla and Netscape 6 are
buggy, and if they can't get it to work on their systems because their systems
aren't adequate and don't know any better, they will percieve a bug even though
that isn't the case.

I guess processor should be tested too.

I am marking this as invalid for 2 reasons.
1) IF people cant read 'System Requirements' info then its not our problem if
they think its slow.
2) Many times people want to install the latest and greatest software no matter
what even if there specifications dont allow it. Its not our place to tell them
what they can and cannot run on there computers. If they wanna run it on there
486 be our guest but dont expect it to be a speed daemon.
Case in point. The minimum requirements for Quake 1 were a Pentium but I
installed it on my 486 and it played just fine (although a bit slow) So we
shouldnt stop people from installing something because there below the requirements.

Agreed, I see no compelling reason why this is needed. Marking

Ksosez:
Part 1 - has nothing to do with my bug. People WONT read it, and even if they
do, then there is no reason we still can't test their system.
Part 2 - people can still install it but they still should get a warning.
Great, you intstalled Quake on you're 486. That has nothing to do with whether
or not Mozilla should give warnings. Warnings don't mean the person still can't
install - it is just a way to protect one's ass if it doesn't work.
Reopening due to invalid reasons for invalidating.

This is definately not invalid since this can be done. People can still install
but should be given a warning that they have low mem, slow processor etc. If
you want to mark it wontfix then go ahead but I won't agree with you. It is
definately not invalid though.

Agreed this is probably better under wontfix. Moving there.

Perhaps the warning could even give a link to an application built off the
gecko engine that doesn't require as much mem such as k-meleon.
I don't agree that this should be marked wontfix after hearing about all the
people thinking mozilla and netscape 6 are a piece of trash because it didn't
work on their system.
...Awaiting someone to reopen, because I know someone will.
This probably won't get fixed, but in the case that it does, does anyone know
where I can find info on the min sys requirements for all platforms?
Might as well post it in this bug for future reference.
