i think that optional line numbers for view source would be cool and useful.

if we used <ol><li> w/ the <li> styled to invisible by default, it would just 
work...

Line numbers on each line would be annoying IMHO. I think it would be better to 
make a status bar with the row, col listing and when the user clicked in the 
box, it would tell the cursor's row/col. See bug 60436 for a suggestion I made 
for composer. It would be nice if the same thing was in the view source. I 
think that numbers on every line would make me go insane though.

status lines don't make sense in a read only view where you have no caret. 
again the default for this would be line numbers off, you'd have to 
alter userchrome.css to style it on.

I guess as long as line numbers are an option then its fine. Why can't View 
Source have a caret added? Maybe I should file it in a seperate bug or add view 
source to the other bug.

if you think this particular bug is *not* a duplicate, please provide a
compelling reason, as well as check a recent *trunk* build (on the appropriate
platform[s]), before reopening.
