The RayTracer benchmarks have shown that the tests Num-V and float-V are not performing equivalently on core-2-duo: on the smaller scene graph the float code is much faster, on the large scene graph the Number code is much faster. (On Mac Pro they're equivalent in both cases.) It could just be microarchitectural issues in such a tight loop, but establishing that seems like a good goal.
