User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:8.0) Gecko/20111108 Firefox/8.0 PaleMoon/8.0 Build ID: 20111108104037 Steps to reproduce: Just general browsing, opening between 40/80 tabs every day. I've talked about this bug with the author of Palemoon (www.palemoon.org). This is (for those who don't know it) a browser which is much like firefox. The author of palemoon thinks the memory leak is a bug within firefox, and therefore requested me to fill a bug report on this website. See our discussion at http://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=348 Actual results: The memory usage of both palemoon and firefox goes beyond every limit. Usually at the end of the day, both browsers use about 3.0 gb of memory. A large part of this is caused by a js memory leak. About 1 gb of memory is used by my subsonic media streamer (see www.subsonic.org). Another 1 gb is used by 'a pool of memory for wich use is unspecified'. Since Palemoon is my standard browser, i've installed the latest Firefox this morning. I've set all my plugins, extensions, bookmarks, general settings, etc to be the same as with palemoon. I've copiëd a session file to my firefox profile folder and opened it. In this session are all my frequently used tabs including Subsonic. I've started both browsers at the same time. I use palemoon, and firefox just sits there with 37 tabs open. These browsers are now battling with each other. Wich one can use the most amount of memory? Currently the fresh firefox install is winning the battle with over 1.8 gb of allocated memory. See the attachment for more information. Also see these images for the memory usage of palemoon this week: http://piclair.com/data/abrer.jpg http://piclair.com/data/84802.jpg Expected results: I do not expect both browsers to use more than 1 gb of memory.
See, running Firefox and Palemoon together for 8 hours has a huge impact on my general system performance: http://piclair.com/data/64nkw.jpg I've now closed both of them because they are getting really slow
Please post the contents of about:memory when this occurs
Tim, please take a look in the attachment file above. See: https://bug710282.bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=581327
Hey Mozilla guys :) Any updates on this one?
I don't think they're really interested. There have been significant advancements in memory handling, but they are not being back-ported to prior revisions. Upgrade?
Yeah, I will try the upgrade. Will see if it helps. ;)
Any update? How is memory usage with Firefox 10.0.2? Even better to test the latest nightly...
Subjective opinion, 10.0.2 feels a bit better and so seems 11.0.beta. However this all get majorized after having FF running for a while (an hour or two), since memory usage just seems to keep grow until everything gets so slow (and swapping) that you have to restart it, just to continue work.
