This is intermittant but lately I'm seeing the problem more often than not
seeing it. When I download a new daily build on Mac the progress window's
progress meter does not show the progress. The %completed and time remaining
numbers all update but the meter itself does not display.
With yesterday's build (030608) downloading today's builds the animation failed
in 3 of 4 attempts.
Steps to reproduce:
1. launch Mozilla
2. go to http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/*trunk/
3. click on MacMozillaInstaller.sea.bin
4. in pick app save as dialog chose Open Using Stuffit Expander radio button
5. click OK
Results:
The download begins, a temporary icon for the file appears on my desktop, the
progress numbers are updated showing a download is happening but the progress
animation does not display. The downloaded file is automatically expanded by
Stuffit and the resulting folder and folder contents are fine.
Expected Results:
The progress animation should be visable and animated to show the download
progress.
Additiona information:
I've been seeing this for some time intermittantly. I do not see this on win32
or linux.

More Additional Information:
I'm not completely confident in the correlation but it seems like if the
connection is better that the animation shows more consistently. I just
repeated 4 attempts to download today's nightly (this time with today's 030704
build) and the animation showed 3 out of 4 attempts. The three attempts that it
did display all seemed to be very fast downloads. Also, in two of the 3 cases
where the animation did display it wasn't visible until the download had reached
about 60% completed.

HTTP downloads do show progress. So this is an FTP problem.

I have a fix. It is part of a larger ftp message propagation change.

FTP is sending out progress notification. However, I do not see the progress
*bar* moving.
Unlike Simon, I do not see the progress bar move when I try to download from
http sites.
Just to recap, the protcols are sending out progress notifications. The numbers
in the progress dialogs are being updated, but the progress bar ui is not moving.
Reassigning to law. bill, if this is not your bug, please bounce it back.
