7121 - White bar down left side shouldn't be there

In the section of links on the left side of the page, there is a bar of white
running down the right hand side that should not be there.  The entire
background of this section of links should be gray.

There has been considerable churn in the tree lately, and this bug appears to be
gone. Can you please verify?

Tested using 6/3 Apprunner on Win 95, Win 98, Win NT, Mac8.5 and Linux. Problem
still exists across platform.

This bug (the 'white column') is caused by the same condition as bug #1302 --
"over-specified colspans". The attachment above is a simplified testcase based
on mozilla.org pages, that shows where the 'white column' comes from.

 You can probably mark this as DUPLICATE (if you agree). (I'll add the testcase
to bug #1302 if you do).

This web page does not use the repeat background feature (I put a breakpoint in
my code and it never gets called, so I don't think it is a background repeat
bug.

rickg: say goodbye to this bug. This was FIXED by karnaze's jul28 table checkin.

Ok, I see white blocks at the bottom (left-bottom and right-bottom) of the page
where the copyright info. is!!.  The bottom part is supposed to be black.

I fixed the 2nd attachment to give the Nav4.6 widths to cells like <td
colspan=15><BR></td>. The problem with white bars is due to the fact that empty
cells do not paint backgrounds and <BR> has been considered empty. Kipp, checked
in some code which changes that, but I don't have it yet. If the white bars are
still present, please reopen the bug and reassign it to Kipp.
