User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0.1 Build ID: 20111220165912 Steps to reproduce: launched firefox Actual results: Session restore is not working. After launching firefox [9.0.1] it tries to open about:sessionrestote but fails showing this message - "That url is not valid and cannot be loaded". Expected results: Session restore box with saved page should have been shown as before with restore button, so that the last opened links could be reopened.
Thanks for signing up for bugzilla :) So that shouldn't happen... What extensions do you have installed?
(I assume about:sessionrestote is a typo and you are typing about:sessionrestore) Does the issue still occur if you start Firefox in Safe Mode? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode

Thank you Paul O'Shannessy [:zpao] for your reply. Using Addblock plus, add to search bar, better privacy, downthemall, flash killer, flashblock, flashgot, noscript.
Thanks Tim for the reply. I tried to start firefox in safe mode. But this time it opened with tabs. Even run FF normally and restarted pc to see what happens. It worked ok. Can this be related with number of tabs? I will test that and let you know next time it happens.
It happened again. about:sessionrestore opened up as soon as I launched FF. But I clearly remember that 8 hours ago when I closed FF there was no link opened in FF. ???!!!

Did about:sessionrestore work that time? Or still not? Next time you start without that broken dialog, can you try just navigating to about:sessionrestore in a new tab?
UFFF...AGAIN! It happened again. I closed firefox with some 30 tabs 8 hours ago. Just opened firefox and it is showing the same message again. But after reporting this bug here the problem did not occur for 2/3 times. Now it happened again. I have to stop relying on about:sessionrestore. @Paul O'Shannessy [:zpao] Dear, I tried that. And the result is the same. Please see the screenshot attached with the original report. Yes, after reporting the problem here, it worked 2/3 times. Crushed 3 times in total after the initial reporting, including today's one.

Without your computer in front of us, it's difficult to diagnose what's going wrong. So I'm working through everything I would try if I were sitting there. Do other about: pages work? Does going to "about:robots" still work when about:sessionrestore breaks?
Dear Paul O'Shannessy [:zpao], it happened again and I came back hare to check update. Saw your comment. Yes, that's right; it is very hard to resolve the issue without having the pc on hand. I gratefully thank you for your voluntary contribution. about:robots is not working!!! It is showing the same as about:sessionrestore .
I think the problem here is that one of those extensions is overriding the part of Firefox that makes those about: pages work. So here's what you should do: 1. Disable all of your extensions. 2. Restart Firefox 3. Navigate to about:robots (and/or about:sessionrestore) & confirm that it works 4. Enable 1 extension 5. Repeat steps 2-4 until about:robots gives you the error At that point you'll know which extension is the problem - you should re-disable it & report the issue to the developer (also mention what extension it is here too). Thanks!
Dear Paul O'Shannessy, Tried that. Disabled each of the addons and restarted one by one. Even disabled plugins. No positive result. about:robots is showing the same message like about:sessionrestore. ---Freaking--- After searching the list of about pages of firefox a landed on http://techdows.com/2010/10/full-list-of-firefox-4s-about-pages.html . There they says that at about:about page all the about pages are listed. I have opened about:about. BUT that page only showed me the list of pages that opens up - there is no about:sessionrestore no about:robots !!!! These are the pages that shows the error message - about:home, about:privatebrowsing, about:rights, about:robots, about:sessionrestore, about:sync-tabs ...and they are not listed at about:about. Shouldn't they be listed there?
It was not the problem of my copy only. Because of a new failure of session restore, I have completely uninstalled firefox along with data. Then downloaded a new copy of 9.0.1 . That copy too fails to open - about:home, about:privatebrowsing, about:rights, about:robots, about:sessionrestore, about:sync-tabs . I have tested each of them. Browser has no add on installed now.
So, somehow all of the about: pages for the browser aren't working, yet other ones are. If you start in safe mode as Tim mentioned in comment 2, do those about: pages start working?

Now using Firefox version 10.0.1. Session restore is working appropriately.
Still sounds to me like an extension issue, but oh well. Thanks for following up!
