User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0.1 Build ID: 20111220165912 Steps to reproduce: Try to upload or download a file (any format like pdf, doc, xls, jpg etc.) and searching / changing the directory for the upload or download. Actual results: During the change of the directory FF crashes immediately. Error is indicated: Adobe Flash-Plugin has crashed. Problem occurs as well after launching FF in safe mode. Upload or download from/to the default directory (e.g. D:\) or from the desktop works fine without a crash. - de-installaling and Re-installing of FF and Adobe Flash did not solve the problem - deletion of downloads.squite did not solve the problem Expected results: I just need to be able to select the appropriate drive and directory and upload from there or download to that directory - please without ANY crash. Btw: an old Mozilla Seamonkey 1.1.19 supports the same uploads or downloads without any crash Note: message was sent from FF, so I'm not able to attach the crash dump file

We need the crash ID from about:crashes https://developer.mozilla.org/en/How_to_get_a_stacktrace_for_a_bug_report >Try to upload or download a file (any format like pdf, doc, xls, jpg etc.) and >searching / changing the directory for the upload or download. Where do you upload ? A ftp upload or http post doesn't involve flash at all as example.
I just reproduced the typical crashes: UPLOAD crash (simple http upload) - click on button in website "search for file" - "File upload" window opens - changing the directory - crash with Mozilla Crash Reporter window: bp-c3a4eb04-a0b9-4e1e-9c06-1e1702120115 UPLOAD crash (http upload with an embedded js function for uploads) - click on CSS button in website "upload" - "File upload" window opens - changing the directory - crash without Mozilla Crash Reporter window - Error message on top of screen "the Adobe Flash-plugin crashed" 9c7bee26-8cd1-4a86-b768-0dddf3af835f DOWNLOAD crash (simple http download) - using the right mouseclick "save target as" - changing the directory - crash bp-256b90b3-68bd-4109-8425-07a622120115 My observation is, that in the moment when I change the directory FF crashes, which is not the case with other browswers (tested with Seamonkey, Opera, IE)
It's caused by GenOleDB.ocx, a third party software, maybe malware.

Summary: FF Crashes with uploads or downloads → FF crashes while uploading or downloading with GenOleDB
Hey - this was the reason for the crashes! I've just deleted that file and FF works with uploads and downloads without crashes any more! That file was part of a genealogy program from 2008 and not identified as malware. It was stored twice on my PC: in the directory of the genealogy program and in the FF directory - but no clue how and when this was installed there as I use FF since long. Problem is solved and I'm happy with FF - thanks a lot for your fast response and support!
This file couldn't be found via google (except the links to Mozilla itself) and such files are usually malware. That is the reason for the comment from Scoobidiver.
