Now that IM is heading for Thunderbird, we could make use of it with our freebusy view:

1. User wants to schedule an appointment with friends
   - Either from the attendees dialog or
   - from the IM dialog

2. User should see free/busy view as shown by freebusy providers

3. User can chat with friend and has the option to:
   - temporarily block certain slots manually
   - ask the friend to look at a certain timeframe (or let the user to
     scroll to the friend's timeframe, like in Google Docs)
   - Optional bonus: detect things from conversation, requires event detector

Requirements to IM I've come up with would be:

* Possibility to send/receive metadata that is not shown in the chat window in a protocol independent way

* Possibility to attach an IM dialog to another window, like our attendees dialog.
