User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:10.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/10.0 Build ID: 20120129021758 Steps to reproduce: browsing wordpress.org administrator panel, the use context menu. browsing through menus, firefox is kind of lagging while chrome/opera did not. i also run my office web site which has drop down and then from the drop menu it has context menu, the browsing experience switching from one menu to other is painful in firefox, but not in chrome and opera. i notice the slow down experience or lagging if i was using amd processor (phenom ii x2), while using intel pentium dual-core and intel core 2 quad didn't have this problem. Actual results: the browsing experience when switch from menu to drop down and context menu slows down or lagging, doesn't have the responsiveness as in chrome and opera browsers. Expected results: switching through menus both on drop down and context menu should not experience slow down or lagging.
when browsing and switch through drop down and context menu, i noticed a high cpu usage up to 25% of the cpu resources, while in chrome browser it only takes 6% of the cpu resources. high cpu usage were also noticed in intel core 2 quad processor on firefox browser.
tested on identical machine but with firefox 9.0.1, the symptoms didn't happen. i guess there's a flaw rendering in firefox 10.
Does the issue still occur if you start Firefox in Safe Mode? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode How about with a new, empty profile? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic%20Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile If persists, post the contents of about:support as a text attachment to this bug
thanks for the reply Tim. really appreciate it. the safe mode did the trick! it ran fast again as it should be. but the cpu usage was still as high as 18% while chrome only did with 6%. i haven't tried to empty profil or making new profile, i just uninstalled, removed the profile from the C:\Users\myusersname\AppData\Local and Roaming, and reinstalled firefox again with no luck. The slow down experience was still exist. i don't know what's wrong with this. i hope next firefox 11 will bring the performance back up again on par with chrome and opera.
the problem still exist after uninstall and reinstall though firefox profile has been deleted from the C:\Users\username\AppData\Local and C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming. only running firefox with safe mode did the trick. :(
Thanks for the tips, really appreciate it. I've done some of the suggestions there but still no luck. I was just curious why on Firefox 10 there's this slow down, while Firefox 9 did not. :) Hope Firefox 11/12 will solve this.
just tested with firefox 11 beta 2 and aurora 12.0a2. firefox 11 beta 2 still have this issue, while aurora 12.0a2 match the speed of chrome and opera for rendering drop down menu and context menu.
Oh I forgot to mention, if I disable hardware acceleration whenever possible on Firefox 9.01 and 10.01, browsing the drop down menu and context menu on AMD Phenom II X2 CPU are much faster but still can't compete the responsiveness of Chrome and Opera, the highlighted menu still lagging behind the mouse cursor where the highlighted should pointed where the mouse cursor is.
the easiest way to do a comparison test speed on drop down menu is to browse http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/ as you can see, move the cursor the About menu and move up and down fast, the highlighted menu often trails behind the cursor, while in chrome and opera the highlighted menu is always at the same position where the mouse cursor is. i also noticed that while moving up and down on the About drop down menu (the longest drop down menu on the site), the cpu usage spike to 20% and sometimes above, while chrome only use 6% of the cpu. note that the test above was run with safe mode on. i'm sorry for the bad english, i'm from indonesia.
Does this occur with the latest release ?
firefox 16.0.2: on my corporate site, yes. even on intel core i3 3220 machine you could see the lagging though it's not so lagging compared to the amd phenom ii x2 550 black edition machine. on http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/, very very very minimal difference, i can see the speed improvement on the intel machine, almost snappier as in chrome. but scrolling the sub-menu on firefox does use more cpu resources than chrome. :)
Hello, I just found your old bug-report and want to ask you if this is still valid. ( we know that we have other specs than chrome, but this don't say everything about quality^^ ) thank you for a short feedback.

Hi Stefan, I could not update the info anymore since I'm no longer working there. I switched to Chrome back then and never looked back. Sorry. :)
