User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:13.0a1) Gecko/20120209 Firefox/13.0a1 Build ID: 20120209031242 Steps to reproduce: If you click a result in the awesome bar, it's frequency is updated, however if you click the same result in the New Tab page, the frequency isn't updated. This has a knock-on affect on browsing and work-flow that has been cultivated over a period of time using the awesomebar.
Confirmed via one of the nightly threads on Mozillazine.

one thing that changes here is that the awesomebar gives points for choosing a result, that is the adaptive part of it. Surely we may do something similar in newtab, though adaptive is done based on the text you type before selecting a result, so it couldn't work the same. See http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/source/toolkit/components/autocomplete/nsAutoCompleteController.cpp#1186 Another thing that may differ could be the transition, off hand I don't remember if we consider those choices typed, even if I think not.

Please see the frecency for the same url. I did them in the listed order. 2075 Type url in url bar 2225 Click on the bookmark on toolbar 4300 Type part of url and click on an item in awesomebar 4475 Click on the thumbnail in new tab page.
So, Marco, what does this tell us? I'd rather not dive into the frecency code too much for now. :)
Mass-move to Firefox::New Tab Page. Filter on new-tab-page-component.
