Hi there Please can you help? We need to have a banner created for the MDN pretty quickly. It would need to be live to the MDN site on Feb 27 (the date Mobile World Congress starts in Barcelona). We are looking to replace the Aurora banner on the front page of MDN here: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/ The banner would say "Apps at MWC 2012 -- Learn more". We have some graphics that are being used for the MWC materials (booth / flyer). Dan -- please can you attach them to the bug here? Ideally, We'd like to have the button made please by Feb 23 - that would give us time to get the MDN team queued up to get it live first thing on Feb 27 CET time. thanks for your help. Jane

Hey Jane Sure. Quick question(s): * is this not something we can have Ryan do from 2Heads? seems like it might be easier to have him knock it out since he has all the files. * if not, wanted to confirm that the copy is final. * I suggest the orange / college treatment with white text on top. Should be rather quick. IF this is something Ryan can do... that'd be great.

Hey Tara -- I assume Ryan made the passport doc? If so -- then yes please if he has time. We did want to use that same look and feel, therefore makes total sense.
Copy is final. thanks.
Dan, would you mind if we close this then and have this routed through the coordinator (liza) and 2heads along with the other assets for MWC? It would be faster. He can knock it out very quickly IMO.
(In reply to Jane Finette from comment #0) Clarification: MDN pushes on a 2-week cycle and the last push before Feb 27th is Tuesday Feb 14th. We "freeze" code on the Thursday preceding a push. So really, this needed to be handed to us by EOD *today* Having said that, we'll consider an off-cycle push on Feb 21st, but that still means we need this by Feb 16th. If we don't have it by Feb 16th, it won't push until Feb 28th.
Hey guys. Unless Ryan can hammer this out (unlikely) I don't have resources that can execute this on such short notice for EOD today, sorry. If Ryan does not do this today, lets see if he can push for the 16th, otherwise, I'll see if Rhonda can back us up for the 16th.
Thanks Luke and Tara. Tara -- lets have Ryan handle. Do you have his contact details you can send me and I'll ask if he can do it for Feb 16 latest.
Ryan Simpson <RyanS@2heads.tv> :)
Thanks Tara -- emailing him now. Luke hope to have an answer for you asap.
Hey Jane, should we close this out? I think you're working directly with Ryan, right?
We can close this as soon as we have an attachment or a link to the banner graphic.
fair enough. Thanks.
Attached file MWC MDN banner options
Tara -- here are the banner suggestions from Ryan. Does you have a preference? Can you also help us create as a PNG?
Thanks Jane. It would actually be easier for Ryan to convert to a PNG, it's really simple once he has the file / design done. But if it's an issue I can help, sure. wrt design, my only concern here is that this promo doesn't follow the design standards used on the site it's going in. Ideally it would just use those exact fonts and keep things simple. Would that be a problem? if the site owners here don't mind us breaking the theme for this promo, that's fine. I'd then , out of these, say lets go with one that doesn't have the FF logo... since this isn't tied specifically to Firefox and we already have a promo with the Logo on this page. So, something like option 2 or 4.
Thanks Tara Dan -- can you provide Ryan with that feedback directly please for options 2 and 4?
I'd probably go with one that doesn't have a "button" for learn more, actually, since none of the promos on this page have buttons, but the entire promo is clickable. Thanks.
Including Craig - main design dev on MDN - to get input as to which banner he likes best to fit with MDN.
I like the difference between the all caps headline and the italic "learn more", and I agree it should be buttonless, so I'd probably go with 4 or 5. And as much as I love the logo, it does end up crowding the "learn more" so if I could only pick one I'd have to choose #4 for its simplicity.
Thanks Craig, 4 was my choice as well (no button, no logo). Lets shoot for that. Are you okay if the font differs than what is on the site? it seemed rather odd to me to break away from that so would prefer to be consistent.... but let us know your preference.
(In reply to Tara (musingt) from comment #20) > Are you okay if the font differs than what is on the site? it seemed rather > odd to me to break away from that so would prefer to be consistent.... but > let us know your preference. Sorry, I misread the original bug and was thinking this would be a sidebar promo similar to the apps banner on https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/web. If it's taking over one of the four slots on the home page, you're right that it might stick out as too inconsistent. So maybe we should include the logo after all, with the same "rising planet" animation as the Firefox for Devs promo next to it. All I'd need for that is the orange collage background image. If you're open to the idea, we can follow the typography of the other three promos (all caps headline, short blurb under) but I'll need a blurb around 10-15 words. Or we can stick with just "learn more," or even go blurbless, especially if the headline wraps to a second line.
If Jane has a blurb, great... if not (and for sake of simplicity and moving quickly) i'm happy to go blurbless. I'd personally say no to the FF logo since it feels redundant (there's another one on the promo next to it) and it's *not* the logo for apps / marketplace. To avoid having the promo look empty, we can expand on the copy a bit ... though it's not my call what the copy would say... here is some fodder: "mozilla marketplace" "always open" "mozilla apps" "always open" "mobile world congress" (vs. MWC) and include the city / date. maybe add "join us at mobile world congress" ? "learn more" Jane/Dan should make final call.
(In reply to Tara (musingt) from comment #22) > I'd personally say no to the FF logo since it feels redundant (there's > another one on the promo next to it) and it's *not* the logo for apps / > marketplace. Maybe some other graphic or icon that could get the same rising animated treatment. Is there an MWC logo we could use? Or maybe the Mozilla dino head, or are we trying to get away from that? Or some other simple icon to represent the general concept or message we're promoting, like we've done for the docs and demos spots... any ideas? Or if we leave it blank we can do something else to help it feel balanced. If we use the same fonts but adjust the size and spacing I think it'll still look good.
> Or if we leave it blank we can do something else to help it feel balanced. > If we use the same fonts but adjust the size and spacing I think it'll still > look good. I suggest we simplify and not worry about the rising animated treatment. I don't have a logo or icons (that I know of) to fill the space. That's why I was thinking we'd expand on the text, and perhaps add a nice hover state based on the existing content, maybe the collage brightens up or fades to highlight the text / learn more. or something simple. :) So, from my perspective. Next steps are: * Jane / Dan to provide final [expanded] text * Ryan to provide the collage graphic * Craig to put these together, sprinkle a fun hover state sound good? Thanks again.
Thanks Tara. Here we go: "Apps at MWC 2012 -- Learn more about the Mozilla Marketplace". Tara, can you confirm that I only need to ask Ryan to change the copy on banner 4. No other visual changes are required? thanks!
(In reply to Jane Finette from comment #25) > Tara, can you confirm that I only need to ask Ryan to change the copy on > banner 4. No other visual changes are required? thanks! It will be live text on the page so I don't even need an updated design, I just need a plain version of the background image. I can crop/scale it as needed.
Yup, to echo Craig's comment, and my comment earlier: we just need the collage graphic, and Craig will handle the rest (layering the copy on top and perhaps adding some hover state magic) thanks!
Okay - asking Ryan right now!
hi there -- you can get the file here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6738497/WEB%20BANNER.zip Ryan zipped over the files as they are and you can amend from there.
hey there -- was that file OK? Conscious of Luke's deadline today. thanks for the help.

The promo is on stage at https://developer-stage9.mozilla.org I added the dates and location because it felt a bit too bare without something in that space, and it fits in better with the other promos (I also think it's useful information).
Thanks Craig!
closing.
