This might be related to bug 725914. I quit Fennec with no tabs open (other than about:home), then loaded it by clicking on the Aurora icon. From the time I clicked on its icon until any top sites on about:home to show up (name and icon showed up at the same time), I counted 15 seconds.

Lucas - Same issue here as bug 725914 - history_with_images is too slow. Let's use the "history" table and load the thumbnails async. This might be a dupe of an existing bug.
