Details

So today I find that sea-win32-02 was not connected to buildbot, though the machine is up. (Adding nagios checks would have told me earlier that it was down of course)

VNC'ed in and the console showed:

D:\mozilla-build>

Lets see...

buildbot-startup.log:
-----------------------------------------------------
"Sat 02/11/2012 3:07:30.04 - About to call guess-msvc.bat"
"Sat 02/11/2012 3:07:30.09 - Start of guess-msvc.bat"

"Sat 02/11/2012 3:07:30.25 - Calling vcvars32.bat in VC8DIR"
------------------------------------------------------

Not sure what the issue is given that output, will need to investigate more -- just manually restarted for now.
Oooo actually looking at this again, I think I know the smoking gun...

Note timestamps, I bet this is a case of Idleizer wanting to restart the machine, and failing to do so.

This happened again, and from the VNC window I can't "Restart" with start menu, only "Logoff" so might be some sort of perm thing. Will look into.

You might be able to "Restart" from the Task Manager...

To be clear the start menu way works as admin
Just saw what I feared was a related issue on this machine, basically meaning it is completely unable to reboot itself from buildbot.

From a log on Fri Mar 16 02:28:50 2012:

************************************************************************************************
*********** END OF RUN - NOW DOING SCHEDULED REBOOT; FOLLOWING ERROR MESSAGE EXPECTED **********
************************************************************************************************
Access is denied.(5)

(that is *not* the expected error message)

And indeed the machine did not reboot:

Summary: sea-win32-02 [iX] failed to come up properly after a reboot → sea-win32-02 [iX] unable to reboot itself
Ok, so my notes for what I did initially here say that I did do this once (I wonder if something else I did reset it at one point, or if I only documented it and then never actually DID it, either way its done now)

* gpedit.msc
** Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies -> User Rights Assignment ;; shut down the system -> seabld

It was still set to the ID of the cltbld user (which doesn't exist on this machine now)

After setting it now I rebooted (from admin), verified its still set, THEN logged into seabld via VNC and verified it does indeed have the shutdown and reboot options available to it.

I'm resolving this assuming its fixed, we can reopen if its not.
