User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1) AppleWebKit/535.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/14.0.835.163 Safari/535.1 Steps to reproduce: Currently firefox supports opening url in a new tab by dragging the selected url onto the tab area. However if the selected text is not a url, then nothing happens. Expected results: Dragging normal text (not url) into the tab bar should trigger a search (using default search engine of user). This is supported in google chrome but not in firefox.
It works if you drop the text in the search field.
(In reply to Cork from comment #1) > It works if you drop the text in the search field. It does, but then the search page opens in the same tab rather than a new tab.
When you select some words and drag them to the tab bar a drop arrow appears. But nothing happens if you drop them.
Works since March 2013.
