Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:11.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/11.0
Embedded IMDB videos lose their image and controls after restarting Firefox (reproducible when installing themes, add-ons that require restart or simply quitting Firefox having the option to "Show windows and tabs from last time" enabled).
Reproducible: always
Steps to reproduce:
1. Navigate to http://www.imdb.com/features/video/trailers/
2. Play one of the embedded trailers
3. Install an add-on (e.g Firebug) and restart Firefox.
Actual results:
After restart the video has no image or controls even if the sound is heard in the background.
Expected results:
The video should properly play after restart.
Note:
Reproducible on Firefox 11 beta 4 on Win XP, Win 7, Mac OS X 10.6 and Ubuntu 11.10.

Simona: Was the trailer that you saw using a Flash player, or was it using HTML5 video? The easiest way to check is to right-click on the video and see if there is a mention of Flash in the context menu.
I went to the IMDB site and clicked on one of the trailers, but it was a Flash player.
Toolkit -> Video/Audio Controls is for the HTML5 media controls.
Component: Video/Audio Controls → Plug-ins
Product: Toolkit → Core
QA Contact: video.audio → plugins

The trailer that I watched is also using Flash.
Flash version: 11,1,102,62.
I can definitely reproduce this. Interestingly, the video is playing in an ad container on the right side of the attached screenshot.
In Nightly the video plays off to the side as well, but at least I get the full player.

What does it take for a user to get out of this situation? Does reloading the page work?

Reloading the page seems to fix it for me.

After installing an add-on, I can reproduce the following each time.
In normal mode, the video on this page doesn't display any content or controls: http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi2823134745/ Right clicking it doesn't show the Flash player either. But restarting in Safe Mode enables the video to play normally. Also, right clicking it shows the Flash player info.
Restarting in normal mode again reproduces the problem once more i.e. no content or controls. Clearing cache and history doesn't help.
I'm using a standard release of Firefox 11 on Windows XP Pro fully patched.

I think I've tracked down the source of the problem, or at least in my case I have. If I unblock the Google widget and refresh the page, the IMDB movie plays correctly. Here are details of the Add-on: https://disconnect.me/tools

Resolving old bugs which are likely not relevant any more, since NPAPI plugins are deprecated.
