User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:11.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/11.0 Build ID: 20120310010316 Steps to reproduce: Serbian italic variants are always handled correctly using an opentype font which supports them on Windows. On Linux (Ubuntu 11.10), they are always handled correctly when the font is explicitly specified. However, when font is allowed to default to opentype with support, they are not handled correctly. Download and open the attached web page to see the problem, and a possible workaround. Actual results: On Windows, the page works perfectly. On Linux, Russian glyphs will usually be displayed where Serbian ought to be in places where default font (which does support Serbian glyphs) is used. Expected results: Serbian glyphs should be displayed correctly when using a default font which supports them.
The problem seems to have gone away in Firefox 12 - with appropriate default fonts, everything now renders properly.

According to this page: http://www.columbia.edu/~fdc/utf8/index.html#html Serbian [sr] and Bulgarian [bg] should display the following Cyrillic letters differently in italics: [ бгдпт ] Here's what Serbian should look like: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Serbian_Cyrillic_Italic.svg However, I have found nothing to indicate that Bulgarian is different from Russian. (In fact, the description of that image suggests that Russian and Bulgarian are the same.) With whatever fonts I have installed on Mac, they all look the same to me. I think we should have special handling for this, but I'm not sure how it would work.

Is this a dupe of bug 694205?

(In reply to Simon Montagu from comment #3) > Is this a dupe of bug 694205? Oh, you think it's just a matter of having the right fonts installed? Is that the best way to handle this?
Ah, yes, the testcases on that bug work. Must just be a matter of having the right fonts.
