Details

Phone: Samsung Galaxy S II Build: 6 April Maybe I didn't wait long enough, I dunno. After ~30 seconds of "No SIM" still in the upper-left corner, I rebooted.
Blocks: b2g-ril
Summary: [B2G] Inserting a SIM doesn't work until reboot → B2G RIL: Inserting a SIM doesn't work until reboot
OS: Mac OS X → Gonk
Hardware: x86 → ARM
I haven't seen this issue, but I have seen the "Connecting..." state for up to a minute or so after booting b2g. Other times it's much faster, seconds.
Just tried it again and let it sit for >20 minutes (timed by Siri, not an estimate). Same. Never figures out there's a SIM until reboot, where it connects right up (well under a minute).
Just tried this on stock android 2.3.5 on an SGS2. Android actually pops a dialog that says "SIM Card (Removed/Inserted) - Please reboot phone". On a Nexus S running stock 4.0.3, both taking the SIM card out and putting it back in while the phone is powered seems to do nothing. No dialog comes up, and the network is never registered. Might be best to just do what gingerbread does and pop a dialog asking the user to reboot?
Blocks a blocker.

Low level Android doesn't support, so we won't block on this.

(In reply to Kyle Machulis [:kmachulis] [:qdot] from comment #3) > > Might be best to just do what gingerbread does and pop a dialog asking the > user to reboot? I agree that this is the behaviour we should pursue, should this be handled directly by Gaia directly?

Yeah. We should double check that we send the 'cardstatechange' event [1] when you remove the SMS. Then Gaia can just observe that. When the card state changes from "ready" to "absent" or whatever, it can pop up a similar dialog. Filed for the Gaia work: https://github.com/mozilla-b2g/gaia/issues/3056 Removed b2g-ril dependency since this no longer needs to be in product phone dep graph.
No longer blocks: b2g-ril
