Here's a simple add-on which uses the HTML5 <datalist> (https://developer.mozilla.org/en/HTML/Element/datalist) element: https://builder.addons.mozilla.org/addon/1043477/latest/
The datalist doesn't show up properly (although if the same HTML file is loaded as a standalone document, it shows up fine).
Since we want people to build user interfaces with panels, it would be really nice to support elements like this.
I know something on the platform side was fixed last year in bug 633854 for <select> elements in panels. Would this be similar?

the link doesn't work, so even if this one is older, bug 918600 has better STR
